I've posted this before but I can't think of a better seasonal message..

Enjoy!

A Lovely letter that sums it all up in that was written in response to this article
"GEORGIE BINKS: MODERN LIVING,Shopping hell"
Link:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/viewpoint/vp_binks/20061213.html

As a former retail worker, I would like to apologize for not using my anal replicator 9000, which gives me the ability to pull Nintendo Wiis and whatever other hit merchandise of the season that by some strange coincidence, we happen to be sold out of during the busiest time of the year out of my rear end on demand. Of course, since I have the ability to replicate items on demand, I work for minimum wage dealing with people who have serious entitlement issues.

Furthermore, when I say I can't do something at work, it means one of two things. The first means it is a physical impossibility (such as giving you the 26th Wii out of a shipment of 25), and the second means that I don't feel like getting fired today.

I am also sick of having to apologize for things that are beyond my control. We are sold out of a hot item? My only option is to apologize and hope the customer doesn't tear into me for something that isn't my responsibility.

I try to help customers as best as I can, but when faced with an extraordinary and unfulfillable request, there is nothing I can do. These issues seem to multiply around Christmas, when everyone is desperate for the perfect gifts and has no Christmas cheer left to share with the retail worker who has to work on Christmas Eve instead of go to the family get together where the food is delicious and the company is better than the average customer.

Please share some Christmas cheer with the retail worker during this season... they deserve it!

From CBC.ca

A Wal-Mart worker has died after being trampled by a throng of shoppers shortly after a store opened Friday on Long Island in New York State, police said.

Frenzied shoppers desperate for bargains broke down the doors at a 5 a.m. sale. Other workers were trampled as they tried to rescue the man, and customers shouted angrily and kept shopping when store officials said they were closing because of the death, police and witnesses said.......

...Shoppers stepped over the man on the ground and streamed into the store. When told to leave, some complained that they had been in line since Thursday morning....

do I even need to say a thing?

today really sucked

well the meeting was really neat.
I learned a little bit more about the industries that need us students.

I walked out of maths class in tears today and went and cried in the bathroom for about an hour.
I just feel so stupid in there, I am not getting this stuff at all.
I also went through the whole... if I don't pass maths I fail my entire course, I end up with no new career, I end up not being able to take care of my parents, I end up poor for the rest of my life.
I was not about to sit there and cry in class so I just took my stuff and left.
That coupled with some completely uninvited emotional strife over the past couple of days
and I just lost my shit today.

Well, off to see if I can use my textbook to make me feel like even more of an idiot.
Today really sucks.

oooooooooo!

So I get home from school today and check out the phone messages.
There is one on there from my instructor.
They are having a meeting with industry folks who offer our co-op positions, and he asked if I would attend.
He says they usually invite a couple of first year students so they can see what the process is all about.

Pretty cool I think, I am going for sure :)

Talked with the Elder today at school, that was good.
Had my maths test today, that was bad it made me cry.
I got 76 which is the highest mark I have ever got on a math test, I suppose that is good.

Have a test tomorrow must go study.

Excel test was good!

Well, I made a couple of silly mistakes on my excel test but I still pulled off a 90%.
According to the little marks update the instructor gave us today I am back up to a mark of 90.9.
He still has to correct a marking error on one of my assignments so it should go up a little bit.
We still have one assignment to come back, a test and two assignments left to do.
As long as I can keep that mark above a 90% I'll be happy.

I'll be writing my appeal letter to Student Loans this weekend. Not sure how long it is going to take them to review my application.
So I'll see what happens there, I just can't really focus on that.
I'll pull this off come hell or high water. Maybe I'll get some scholarships.

Have some drafting assignments to finish up. One shop assignment to finish, I think I'll just go into school early for a couple of days to finish that one up.

I am a little worried about the upcoming maths test.  I can work the numbers if it is just a straight equation. I am running into trouble with the word problems, figuring out how to apply what I know how to do.  Got a third set of practice sheets from the instructor there.  He can't understand what is going on with me. He knows I know how to work the equations, but not why the word problems hang me up.
I see him on Monday with the set of sheets he set up for me to work on.
Test is on Tuesday.

So far so good, I just need to sleep one day ;)

here is a pic of the lovely thingys we had to make on the Mitre saw and the Jigsaw.
Yay powertools!

Scored the mark back for the whole class on the last computer assignment, we are all happy so I think I am sitting at 89.2 total average for my assignments.
No excel test back yet but I think I did ok.

Aced it!

Had my oral presentation today and scored 99.77, so I got 100% on it.
I think my final for the class was 96 or 97%, I was all recovering from being nervous so it didn't stick in my brain.

Drafting test was moved to tomorrow so he could give us feedback on the assignments we did related to the material we are going to be tested on.

A couple of the instructors said if I keep it up I could have a seat in the diploma program. It means two more years of school but also better career prospects.  I am seriously considering it.
Alot depends on my appeal with student loans.

Depending what happens with the big computer assignment discrepancy. (we all got docked a mark on an instruction that was changed in class, but marked bases on the original instruction)
I might have pulled up my average to 89, so I may well still be able to pull off an A in computer class.  If he does not give us all the mark back, I'll need to pull off really high marks on my next few assignments to get it over the hump.

Maths test on Monday.
I am off to finish my review sheets so I can verify I am doing things right when we go over it on Friday.

Some more school stuff

Burnt Toast
Well, I have my oral presentation tomorrow, it decides my final score for the Hand tools component. Better be good I spent 12 hours making some Powerpoint to go with it.

After a couple of catastrophic assignments in computer class, I have gotten a couple of good ones back.  I caught some marking errors on them so I'll have to get back to you on how far I managed to recover from the 70% I got on one assignment.

So far so good in drafting class after one test and two assignments I am sitting at a A there.

We have our first maths test on Tuesday, as long as I get past making the tiny errors as I calculate it will be ok.

Test 2 in drafting tomorrow as well.

Assignment 6 in computer class due on Friday.

Portable power tools test next week......and lord only knows how much will get piled on.

On the cash front.
I have to write my appeal letter to student aid this weekend.
Seems the computer can't tell the difference between University and a trades program.  Financial aid lady said as long as I explain that
i am attempting to get myself a new career,
that I paid off all of my previous student loans in full and
that I was told they would move heaven and earth to ensure I had a seat if I wanted to continue into the diploma program if my marks stay high.
They should give up some cash.

Other than that I am exhausted and hope to one day get some decent amount of sleep.
I might get a day off in December!

Over and out!
